KIMMINS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE'S WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY, THERMOCOR, ACHIEVES MOBILE INCINERATION THROUGHPUT CAPACITIES AT PERMITTED LEVELS
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Operating throughput levels on ThermoCor, Inc.'s, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kimmins Environmental Service Corp. (NYSE: KVN), mobile incinerator are achieving results at permitted capacity.
Based on results of a test trial burn, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency issued ThermoCor, Inc., an interim permit to begin incinerating over 60,000 tons of PCB-contaminated soil located on the LaSalle Electric Utilities Superfund Site at the production rate of 16.7 tons per hour.
"This is an extremely important event in the growth and development of our company and establishes ThermoCor as an industry leader," stated ThermoCor's president, Thomas C. Andrews. "Three years ago we set out to design, construct, and operate one of the largest mobile incinerators in the industry. Having accomplished that, we can look ahead to future projects with the confidence that ThermoCor's incinerator will not only meet, but exceed current regulations for operation."
Francis M. Williams, president of Kimmins Environmental Service Corp., commented: "We have identified this industry segment as one with significant growth opportunities. The accomplishment of achieving operating efficiency up to the permitted throughput rate is exceptional and confirms ThermoCor, Inc., as one of the leaders in the industry."
The incinerator demonstrated PCB destruction removal efficiency at a rate greater than mandated by current federal regulations. ThermoCor, Inc. began processing PCB-contaminated material under the permit on April 12, and expects to complete base contract incinerator operations at the site by the end of 1992. At that time, the unit will be dismantled and prepared for shipment to another location.
The LaSalle Electric Utilities Superfund Site - Phase II contract is approximately $20 million. In addition to on-site incineration, ThermoCor, Inc. is providing contaminated soils excavation, groundwater treatment, contaminated sewer cleanout, facility decontamination, asbestos abatement, and building demolition. Approximately 50 percent of the base contract has been completed.
ThermoCor is headquartered in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and provides a full range of environmental remediation services.
Kimmins Environmental Service Corp. and its subsidiaries provide solid waste management services, including collection, transfer and recycling; environmental services, including hazardous waste remediation and incineration; dismantling and abatement of industrial facilities; and environmental infrastructure development.
