KIMBLE GLASS OPERATION RELOCATES TO CAJAHS MOUNTAIN
RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Kimble Glass Inc. is relocating a $5 million production facility from its headquarters in Vineland, N.J. to Cajahs Mountain in Caldwell County, announced Secretary Estell C. Lee of the North Carolina Department of Economic and Community Development.
The company will manufacture glass and plastic products for the science and pharmaceutical industries.
Kimble Glass Inc. already has a similar operation in Morganton.
"We have enjoyed an outstanding business relationship with Kimble Glass since they located their first facility in Burke County two years ago," said Secretary Lee. "We appreciate the company's continued vote of confidence in our employees, our quality of life and our better business climate."
Kimble Glass Inc. will lease a 75,000-square-foot building on 24 acres in Cajahs Mountain. The company will move in immediately and is expected to begin production early next year. The company will also employ 42 people at start-up and 200 at full production.
Kimble Glass Inc. looked at sites in South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee but chose North Carolina for several reasons including an available facility and the state's community college training program. But most importantly, NationsBank (NYSE: NB) loaned the Caldwell County Economic Development Commission the money to buy the facility so it could lease it to Kimble Glass Inc.
The company is a wholly-owned operating division of Owens Illinois, the largest glass container manufacturer in the world.
Robert Dunn, Regional Manager of the Department's Northwest Office and Charles Myers, Executive Director of the Caldwell County Economic Development Commission have been working with the company on the project since March.
