KIMBERLY-CLARK JOINT VENTURE TO BUILD TISSUE MILL IN BAHRAIN

DALLAS, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) today announced that its joint venture company, Olayan Kimberly-Clark Arabia Company, has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Development and Industry in Bahrain to build a tissue mill in that country. The $33 million facility, which will produce household products for sale in Gulf markets, is in lieu of a similar operation previously announced for Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Construction of the new tissue mill will begin soon, with completion scheduled for late next year. Located in the Arabian Gulf between the Qatar Peninsula and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain was chosen because of its easy access to the region's estimated 20 million consumers.
Other factors in the site's selection were the country's skilled workforce, its good quality of life and the cooperation and assistance received from the Ministry of Development and Industry in Bahrain.
Olayan Kimberly-Clark is a joint venture formed in 1992 between Kimberly-Clark and the Olayan Group, K-C's former licensee in Saudi Arabia. The joint venture company manufactures and markets a full range of consumer products, including diapers, facial tissue, feminine pads, bathroom tissue and household towels.
The Bahrain mill will be Olayan-Kimberly's second manufacturing facility in the region. The other is in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. In addition, Kimberly-Clark has an investment in Arabian Medical Products Manufacturing Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Kimberly-Clark is a manufacturer of household, personal care and health care products, as well as newsprint and premium business, correspondence and specialty papers. Its well-known consumer products include Huggies diapers, Huggies Pull-Ups training pants, Huggies baby wipes, Kleenex facial tissue, Kleenex premium bathroom tissue, Kotex and New Freedom feminine care products, Hi-Dri household towels and Depend incontinence products.
The company currently has production facilities in 19 states and 18 countries outside the United States.
