KILLINGTON OPENS: NEW ENGLAND SKI SEASON BEGINS
WOODSTOCK, Vt., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- High elevation and a gigantic snowmaking plant have combined to allow the Killington Ski Area in central Vermont to open for the 1992-93 ski season today if current weather holds, tomorrow morning for certain.
For 31 consecutive years, Killington has been the first ski area in the east to open and the last to close.
"The entire ski industry gains when an area such as Killington makes the commitment to open early," indicates Phil Camp, executive director of The New England Ski Areas Council (NESAC).
"At this time of year, skiers are just waiting for the first word that the approaching season will soon get underway," Camp adds. "Early openings like this ring the phones off the walls for future lodging, season lift tickets and the like. It's the spark that starts the fire under consumers and has a very positive effect on the entire ski economy."
NESAC is the non-profit membership association which represents all 69 alpine ski areas in New England. The association is the source of roughly 80 percent of all ski conditions information carried by broadcast and print media.
