KIDDE TO AWARD $20,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FIRE SAFETY ESSAYS
MEBANE, N.C., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Kidde, The Fire Extinguisher Company, has announced a $20,000 scholarship fund to promote home fire safety among young people.
Kidde will award two $10,000 scholarships to the winners of a national essay contest, "What We're Doing to Protect Our Home Against Fire." The company will award one of the grants to an essay winner in the under-12 age category. Another scholarship will be awarded to the essay winner in the 12-to-18-year-old category. A panel of independent judges will determine the winners.
"Home fires cause significant loss of life and millions of dollars in property damage every year. We think an effective way to protect homes from fires is to encourage youngsters to promote fire safety," said Kidde President Guy Wannop. "If young people practice fire safety when they're young, they'll carry on those habits when they're adults."
