KIA NAMES ADVERTISING AGENCY TO LAUNCH ITS CARS IN UNITED STATES

IRVINE, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced Goldberg Moser O'Neill of San Francisco as its advertising agency, charged with helping the Korean-based car manufacturer launch the Kia brand and its products in the United States at the end of the year.
Goldberg Moser O'Neill, with clients such as Dreyer's Ice Cream, Reno Air and Dell Computer Corp., won the ad account over three other finalists: Jordan, McGrath, Case & Taylor (New York); the team of Kresser/Craig (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Waring & LaRosa (New York); and Stein Robaire Helm (Los Angeles).
According to Dick Macedo, KMA's director of marketing, the agency immediately will focus on positioning the company and its four-door sedan -- a car expected to be priced below $9,000. Also, Goldberg Moser O'Neill will begin research to develop creative concepts for television and print campaigns as well as collateral material.
"In order for Kia to succeed in the U.S.," Macedo said, "we will have to sell a quality product in a manner that disrupts the traditional methods that companies have used to sell cars and the way that people buy cars. A key factor in helping Kia achieve exceptional customer satisfaction is selecting the right advertising partner like Goldberg Moser O'Neill."
The first Kia-brand car model, a four-door compact sedan, is targeted to be on sale in the 11 Western states by the end of the year. A second vehicle, a distinctive sport-utility vehicle, will be introduced next summer.
Kia Motors America is a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corp. in Seoul, Korea. Since 1987, Kia has built the popular Ford Festiva for sale to North American consumers.
