KEYSTONE HEALTH PLAN EAST MEMBERSHIP INCREASES 7 PERCENT IN SECOND QUARTER

 PHILADELPHIA, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Keystone Health Plan East today reported a second quarter membership increase of 7 percent, bringing membership up to 471,027 from 440,285 in March.
 "We are exceptionally pleased, although not surprised, by our substantial growth during the last quarter," said Allen Wise, president and chief executive officer of Keystone Health Plan East. "Based on our rate of growth during the past two years, it won't be that long until we have the largest HMO membership in the five-county region."
 Keystone's membership includes 144,000 Medicaid HMO members, the largest voluntary Medicaid HMO enrollment in the country.
 Keystone is the HMO subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross and Pennsylvania Blue Shield. The HMO serves Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties through a network of 61 hospitals and more than 5,000 primary care physicians and specialists.
