KEY TRONIC EARNINGS AND SALES GAIN IN SECOND QUARTER FY93

SPOKANE, Wash., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Key Tronic Corp. (NASDAQ: KTCC) today announced improved net income and increased sales for the second quarter of fiscal 1993. Earnings per share were the highest in eight quarters.
The Spokane-based manufacturer of computer keyboards and other input devices reported that second-quarter net income was $1,419,000, or 15 cents per share, compared to net income of $55,000, or 1 cent per share in the same quarter of 1992. Net sales for the second fiscal 1993 quarter amounted to $32,613,000, up 11.4 percent over the $29,288,000 recorded in the prior year quarter. As explained last quarter, these comparisons are slightly affected by a restatement of 1992 figures due to a change in the company's fiscal year calendar.
The quarterly figures were announced by Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hiller Jr. Hiller said, "The results are better than the plan which we established last March. Our progress is steady as we stay focused on expanding our product offerings and reducing the costs of existing products." Hiller noted that this resulted in margin improvements to 23.7 percent of revenue in the second quarter, compared to 17.5 percent in the same period last year.
Key Tronic Corp. is the nation's largest independent producer of computer keyboards. Operating from bases in the United States, Ireland and Asia, the company's markets are computer manufacturers, distributors and large retail outlets worldwide.
