KEY TRONIC EARNINGS AND MARGINS CONTINUE ADVANCE

SPOKANE, Wash., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Key Tronic Corp. (NASDAQ: KTCC) today announced increases in sales, earnings and gross margins for the third quarter of fiscal 1993, compared to the previous quarters in 1993 and 1992.
The Spokane-based manufacturer of computer keyboards and other input devices reported that third-quarter net income was up 79 percent to $1,684,000, or 18 cents per share, compared to $940,000, or 12 cents per share, in the same quarter of 1992. Net sales in the third fiscal 1993 quarter amounted to $32,226,000, compared to $31,502,000 recorded last year. These comparisons are slightly affected by a restatement of 1992 figures due to a change in the company's fiscal year calendar.
In announcing the results, Key Tronic's Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hiller Jr. said, "The performance figures in the third quarter reflect our progress in reducing the cost of manufacturing the company's existing products. Gross margins rose to 27 percent of revenues, a steady gain from previous quarters. The margins offset the burden on income of increased research and development and the costs associated with new product introductions.
"Although sales in 1993's third quarter were not substantially increased," Hiller said, "contracts recently awarded to Key Tronic by major computer manufacturers will begin to impact revenues in future quarters. The computer marketplace continues to adjust in its historic course change, and Key Tronic's own turnaround is still subject to such fluctuations as seen in our third-quarter revenues."
Key Tronic is the nation's largest independent producer of computer keyboards. Operating from bases in the United States, Ireland and Asia, the company's markets are computer manufacturers, distributors and large retail outlets worldwide.
