MYSTERY surrounded Kevin Kyle's possible switch to Russia last night.

Spartak Nalchik last night insisted the Kilmarnock striker will play in a trial match in Turkey tomorrow while Rugby Park boss claimed Kyle had changed his mind about travelling.

Spartakareonapre-seasontraining camp and the club said there a "good chance" of the striker being offered a megabucks deal to join them for the start of the Russian Premier League season later this month.

Kyle's contract expires in May and it was thought the hitman would jump at the chance of a lucrative move.

But Calderwood insisted the 28-year-old had "pulled the plug" on the move due to security concerns.

Nalchik is in the Caucasus close to war-torn Chechnya and it is not uncommon for foreigners to be kidnapped there.

But Spartak assistant coach Kazbek Nakhushevsaidlastnight:"Iwillmeet him at the airport - I have been assured he will be on the plane.

"Kyle will take part in our usual training session and will play for our team in a friendly.

"We will have an impression of Kyle. We are aiming to recruit several new players so he has a good chance of being offered a deal."
