KERR-McGEE'S WYNNEWOOD REFINERY RECERTIFIED AS OSHA STAR WORKSITE

OKLAHOMA CITY, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Kerr-McGee Refining Corp.'s Wynnewood (Okla.) Refinery has received unconditional three-year recertification in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Star Voluntary Protection Program. The refinery first earned Star status in November 1987, when it became the nation's 50th Star Program worksite.
OSHA established the Star Program to identify employers in the forefront of employee protection and to encourage employer initiative in improving and expanding safety and health management. Facilities applying to join the federal Star Program undergo extensive OSHA reviews of site conditions, safety records, employee health and safety program operation, regulatory compliance and interviews of employees and management.
In 1992, Wynnewood Refinery achieved a total recordable injury and illness rate of 0.51 representing a 93 percent improvement over the previous three years. The refinery's safety achievements have been recognized by the National Petroleum Refiners Association.
Refinery Manager Gregg Lorimor said, "The Wynnewood employees have worked very hard to meet the standards of the Star Program and avoid injuries. I am very pleased to see this effort recognized by OSHA."
