KERR-MCGEE REFINING SUPPORTS DESIGNATED DRIVERS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- Kerr-McGee Refining Corp.'s retail stations in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, as well as its Oklahoma City distributor locations, are participating in a national anti-drunk driving campaign called "The Designated Driver is the Life of the Party." The campaign kicks off Dec. 1 and ends Jan. 4.
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage party-goers to act responsibly by designating a person who will abstain from drinking in order to drive others home safely. The campaign will supplement existing policies for the responsible sale of beer at Kerr-McGee stations and stores.
"Alcohol-related auto fatalities in the United States dropped nearly 10 percent between 1990 and 1991, reaching the lowest fatality toll since 1982," said Bud Blackmore, general manager of branded marketing for Kerr-McGee Refining. "While this is a positive sign, one accident is too many. Through this campaign, we hope to further increase awareness of the need for designated drivers."
Participating Kerr-McGee stations will display colorful signs and distribute brochures with information on designated drivers, drunk-driving myths and tips for responsibly hosting a party. The campaign is sponsored by the National Association of Convenience Stores.
