KERR-MCGEE ANNOUNCES ESTIMATED THIRD-QUARTER RESULTS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Kerr-McGee Corp. (NYSE: KMG) today announced estimated pre-tax operating profit and net income for the 1993 third quarter at a security analysts' meeting in Boston. The company estimates operating profit to be about 10 percent lower than in the third quarter of 1992. Net income for the third quarter is estimated at 35 cents to 40 cents per share, down from 60 cents per share in the 1992 third quarter.
The lower estimated net income results from reduced operating profit, lower currency exchange gains, and the favorable impact on the 1992 third quarter of a Windfall Profit Tax adjustment.
The company plans to release its third-quarter 1993 results in the last week of October.
Looking ahead to factors affecting 1994 earnings, company officials said that the impact of significantly higher crude oil production will more than offset projected lower earnings from coal operations. Kerr-McGee anticipates oil production will exceed 70,000 barrels per day in 1994 versus estimated 1993 production of 55,000 barrels per day. Lower 1994 coal earnings are projected as a result of renegotiation of two contracts for coal from the company's Galatia, Ill., mine.
