KENTUCKY COOK CREATES HAMBURGER CUISINE WINNER

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Tamula M. Tucker, of Louisville, Ky., began her original recipe with ten White Castle hamburgers, added potatoes, onions, cheeses and bacon for a royal touch, and ended by being named a runner-up winner in a national hamburger recipe contest.
"Scrumptious King's Delite," Tucker's culinary creation featuring White Castle hamburgers, was named a runner-up winner in White Castle's national Hamburger Recipe Contest by a panel of local food critics and personalities at the company's corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, on August 11. The Grand Prize winner was Mildred Bernhagen, of Naperville, Ill., for her "Castle Enchiladas" recipe.
Over 380 White Castle lovers across the country submitted recipes for the contest which was held in conjunction with National Hamburger Month, sponsored by White Castle, during May. Until the contest deadline of July 1, recipes arrived daily at White Castle for a variety of dishes such as tacos, casseroles, quiches, meat loaf, chili and more. The only contest requirement was that each recipe include ten White Castle hamburgers.
"Tamula, with her 'Scrumptious King's Delite,' has shown us a delicious new way to enjoy White Castle hamburgers," said Kim Bartley, White Castle's director of marketing. "We were impressed with her creativity as well as that of all those across the country who entered our contest."
All 1993 winning recipes, plus last year's champion recipe, "Broccoli Castlerole," and White Castle's famous "Turkey Stuffing Recipe," will be published in a cookbooklet later this year. The Third Annual Recipe Contest is already being planned.
 SCRUMPTIOUS KING'S DELITE
 Ingredients:
 10 White Castle hamburgers
 4 eggs
 8-10 medium potatoes
 1 medium onion
 2 Tbsp. salt
 2 Tbsp. pepper
1 package sharp American cheese, shredded
1 small box Velveeta(R) cheese, shredded
 1 16-oz. package bacon
 Shortening
Place ten hamburgers (including buns) side-by-side in a large greased casserole dish. Scramble 4 eggs in a bowl and pour over the hamburgers. Chop 8-10 potatoes in bite-size chunks. Grease a skillet with shortening and fry potatoes with chopped onions, salt and pepper (do not brown completely or overcook). Drain potatoes and layer over the hamburgers. Cook bacon in a pan or a microwave until well done (but short of crisp). Pat bacon with paper towels to remove excess grease. Crumble bacon and put in a bowl; set aside. Layer potatoes with American cheese and top with a layer of Velveeta cheese. Layer bacon over top of the cheeses. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until contents are well cooked. Remove foil and cook another 15 minutes until lightly browned on top.
