KENNETH BRANAGH'S MUCH-AWAITED 'MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING' TO OPEN IN MAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the most anticipated theatrical film events of the year, with enough star power to please the Bard himself, is set for May, when The Samuel Goldwyn Co. premieres Kenneth Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothing." Branagh's adaptation of the Shakespeare comedy, starring Branagh, Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Michael Keaton, Robert Sean Leonard and Emma Thompson, will open May 7, in New York and nationwide on May 14.
Branagh ("Peter's Friends," "Dead Again," "Henry V") and Thompson ("Howard's End," "Dead Again") star as the stubborn, bickering lovers Benedick and Beatrice; Washington ("Malcolm X," "Mississippi Masala") as victorious Don Pedro; Reeves ("Bram Stoker's Dracula," "My Own Private Idaho") as the villain Don John; Leonard ("Swing Kids," "Dead Poets Society") as the defiant young soldier Claudio; and Keaton ("Batman," "Beetlejuice") as the malaprop-rendering Dogberry.
Also starring is English newcomer Kate Beckinsale as the beautiful hero, Richard Briers as her father, Leonato and stalwart English comic Ben Elton as Dogberry's assistant, Verges.
Shot on location in the Tuscany region of Italy, "Much Ado About Nothing" is one of Shakespeare's sexiest and most popular comedies. The action centers around two intertwined love stories, one mischievously funny and the other sweetly poignant.
"Much Ado About Nothing" is a Samuel Goldwyn Co. production in association with Renaissance Films and American Playhouse Theatrical films. Branagh, David Parfitt and Stephen Evans are producers.
