 KEMPER NOMINATES NEW MEMBERS FOR ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 LONG GROVE, Ill., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Kemper Corp. (NYSE: KEM) announced today that Peter B. Hamilton, vice president and chief financial officer of Cummins Engine Company, Inc., and Stephen B. Timbers, chief investment officer of Kemper Corp. and senior executive vice president and chief investment officer of Kemper Financial Services, Inc., have been nominated for election to its board of directors by Kemper's stockholders at the annual meeting on May 13.
 If elected, Hamilton and Timbers will begin to serve on May 13.
 "As a senior executive of a large public company with a multi- faceted background, Peter will be a valuable addition to Kemper Corporation's board of directors," said David B. Mathis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Kemper Corp. "As chief investment strategist for Kemper Corporation, Steve also will provide valued insights to the board."
 Hamilton, 45, joined Cummins Engine Company, the world's largest independent manufacturer of diesel engines, in 1983 as general counsel and secretary. He was named vice president-law and treasury in 1987 and assumed his current position with the company in mid-1988. Previously, Hamilton was a partner in the law firm Califano, Ross & Heineman in Washington. From 1977 to 1980, he served as the general counsel of the U.S. Air Force and in various federal government positions.
 Hamilton received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1968 and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1971.
 Timbers, 47, joined Kemper Financial Services, Inc., Kemper Corp.'s asset management company, in his current position in 1987 and was named chief investment officer of Kemper Corp. in 1991. From 1984 to 1987, he was executive vice president and chief investment officer of The Portfolio Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Chemical New York Corp. He served as senior portfolio manager at Smith Barney, Harris Upham and Company from 1981 to 1984. Previously, he was portfolio strategist and director of research for common stock investments for Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York.
 Timbers holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.
 The addition of Hamilton and Timbers would increase the size of Kemper Corp.'s board of directors to 14 members.
 Kemper Corp. is a non-operating holding company with subsidiaries in investment services, life insurance, reinsurance, property-casualty insurance and risk management.
