KEMPER NATIONAL'S NEW YORK CITY OFFICE TEMPORARILY RELOCATES AFTER EXPLOSION

LONG GROVE, Ill., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kemper National Insurance Companies' New York City Division office has relocated to provide ongoing service to policyholders, agents, brokers and other customers as a result of the Feb. 26 explosion at the World Trade Center. The office's first policy since last Friday's explosion was issued at 9:57 a.m. Wednesday, just five days after the office was temporarily shut down by the explosion.
Beginning yesterday, Kemper National began providing buses to transport about 100 of the New York City office's 273 employees to its Summit, N.J., division office. Employees have also been relocated to Kemper National offices in Philadelphia and Wallingford, Conn.
Barry Scammell, New York City division president, said the office's emergency relocation arrangements will last indefinitely, since it is unknown when the World Trade Center will reopen for business. "The office's disaster recovery plan, which every business no matter what size should have, was implemented and has been instrumental in getting us back in business so early," Scammell added.
Most of Kemper National's New York City office is located on the 31st floor of Two World Trade Center. The office services department occupies about one-fourth of the tower's 28th floor, and a law office is on the 38th floor.
Kemper National officials and other World Trade Center tenants have been given limited access to their offices to retrieve some equipment and files and evaluate the extent of any damage.
Most of Kemper National's New York City staff can be reached by calling 212-313-4000. Claim service will continue uninterrupted with no change in locations or telephone numbers.
Kemper National Insurance Companies, with 1992 sales of $3.1 billion, operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and many foreign markets.
