KELSEY-HAYES TO DOMINATE FOUR-WHEEL ABS MARKET IN 1996,
ACCORDING TO NORTH AMERICAN ABS MARKET REPORT
DETROIT, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelsey-Hayes Group will dominate the four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) market in North America by 1996, according to the "North American ABS Market Report"(copyright) released by Tier One(R), an automotive electronics market research and consulting firm. The Tier One report is based on the "North American Automotive Production Outlook: Passenger Cars and Trucks" (release 1991.06, by AUTOFACTS, Inc.).
 THE FOUR-WHEEL ABS MARKET
"The Tier One report indicates that North American four-wheel ABS consumption will increase 45 percent annually from model year 1991 to model year 1996," said Ed Gulda, president of the Kelsey-Hayes Worldwide ABS and Controls Business. "With the introduction of our new lightweight, low-cost EBC 10(tm) four-wheel ABS, Kelsey-Hayes is a natural to dominate that growing market."
According to the Tier One report, North American four-wheel ABS consumption will increase from 1.5 million units in model year 1991 to 9.4 million units in 1996. Of those 9.4 million units, Kelsey-Hayes is expected to produce more than 3.1 million units.
 TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS
The Tier One report also indicates that demand for traction control combined with four-wheel ABS will increase dramatically, particularly for four-wheel-drive pickup trucks, utility vehicles and vans with four- wheel ABS. Demand for traction control with two-wheel ABS is also expected to increase.
Kelsey-Hayes is also uniquely positioned to take advantage of the increasing traction control market with a new traction control package for the EBC 10. The new product, which was also introduced during the SAE Congress & Exposition, features traction control hardware that serves as a simple, modular add-on to normal EBC 10 hardware. EBC 10 units equipped with traction control will be designated as EBC 10 TC.
The Worldwide ABS and Control Business of Kelsey-Hayes is the world's leading supplier of ABS to the automotive market.
Kelsey-Hayes is a major supplier of conventional brakes, anti-lock brake systems, electrical control devices and steel and aluminum wheels for the automotive industry worldwide. Kelsey-Hayes is a business of Varity Corporation (NYSE: VAT).
