KELSEY-HAYES TO BUILD EUROPEAN ABS MANUFACTURING FACILITY

DETROIT, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelsey-Hayes will build an anti- lock braking system (ABS) manufacturing facility in Western Europe to serve its growing customer base there, according to Ed Gulda, group president, Worldwide ABS and Controls. The announcement was made today at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Congress & Exposition in Detroit.
"We're building the ABS manufacturing facility to meet market demand for our new, lightweight, cost-effective EBC 10(TM) family of ABS," Gulda said. "To date, we've received contracts valued at more than $110 million annually to produce the EBC 10 family for European automobile manufacturers. To provide quality systems and first-rate service, the site will be located in close proximity to our customer base."
According to Gulda, Kelsey-Hayes will break ground on the approximately 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in about May 1993. The plant will be completed in the first quarter of 1994, with ABS production slated to begin in May 1994. Initial production capacity will be approximately 300,000 units annually, with potential for 1.1 million units annually by 1997. The facility will be dedicated to the production of the company's new EBC 10 family of ABS and traction control for the European automotive market.
The Kelsey-Hayes Worldwide ABS and Controls Group is the world's leading manufacturer of ABS for the automotive market. Kelsey-Hayes is a major supplier of conventional brakes, anti-lock brake systems and electrical control devices to the automotive industry worldwide.
