KELLY SERVICES CEO TO RECEIVE HALL OF FAME'S HART AWARD
FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN
LANSING, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Terence E. Adderley, president and chief executive officer of Kelly Services, Inc., will receive the Philip A. Hart Award from the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame in ceremonies Oct. 22 in Novi, Mich.
Dr. Gladys Beckwith, president of the Michigan Women's Studies Association, sponsor of the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame, this week announced Adderley's acceptance of the award, which recognizes a man for his contributions to the advancement of women.
"We are privileged to have Mr. Adderley as an addition to the Hall of Fame," said Dr. Beckwith. "His support and encouragement of female staff at Kelly -- in fact, of women in business -- are exemplary. We hope, with his acceptance of this award, that other male business leaders will, likewise, recognize the valuable contributions women make as managers and executives."
Adderley, who worked his way through the ranks of the company from branch manager in Louisville, Ky., in 1958, is a Detroit native who graduated from the University of Michigan with master's and bachelor's degrees in business administration. He became president of Kelly Services in 1967.
"It will be a distinct honor," said Adderley, "for me to accept this award. The Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame have received our support over the years. Being included as an inductee means a great deal to me."
Kelly Services, the nation's largest staffing support company, provides the services of 550,000 employees through a worldwide network of 950 offices. Since its founding in Detroit in 1946, the company has provided training and employment opportunities for thousands of women. Likewise, many women have advanced within the company from staff positions to branch, regional and corporate management levels.
More than 30 percent of the company's officers are women, as are 85 percent of its managers and 90 percent of its work force.
Other Hart Award winners include former Michigan Gov. William G. Milliken, former United Auto Workers President Douglas A. Fraser and Little Caesars and Detroit Red Wings owner Michael Ilitch.
Adderley will be inducted in ceremonies at the annual Michigan Women's Hall of Fame Awards Dinner Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Novi Hilton Hotel in Novi. Adderley will be an honored guest at a reception before the dinner.
Tickets for the 9th Annual Awards Dinner are $75 each for the dinner and for the reception. Information about the dinner, the honorees and the awards presentations may be obtained by calling 517-484-1880 during regular business hours.
The Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame were founded by the Michigan Women's Studies Association to address the omissions in history of women's accomplishments. The center is at 213 W. Main St., a few short blocks south of the state Capitol building. Tours are available and groups are welcomed. The center has ample free parking for individual cars and group tour buses.
