KELLY NAMED CHAIRMAN OF IEB

 KELLY NAMED CHAIRMAN OF IEB
NEW ORLEANS, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- John J. Kelly, president of

Textron Marine Systems, has been elected to a two-year term as chairman of the Navy League Industrial Executive Board. This 12-member board is composed of prominent CEOs and presidents of major U.S. companies. The objective of the Industrial Executive Board is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between industry and the sea services (U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine) on a broad range of subjects, domestic as well as international, including research and development and acquisition policy issues.
In accepting this position, Kelly stated that it is incumbent upon corporate members of the Navy League to play a more active role in registering industry concerns and developing alternative solutions with the sea services, especially the U.S. Navy. The Industrial Executive Board has the charter to open a meaningful dialogue with the Department of the Navy, and these high-level communications can help serve as a catalyst in shaping the future of the marine industry. Kelly further stated that U.S. defense firms must work more closely together not only in Louisiana, but also countywide in protecting American jobs and preserving the U.S. industrial base.
The Navy League of the United States is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. From a small band of patriots in turn-of-the-century New York City, the civilian educational organization has grown to more than 73,000 members in 350 councils worldwide including 240 corporation memberships representing defense and non-defense industries. Navy Leaguers carry the message to Americans that the United States is a maritime nation, dependent upon freedom of the seas for our economic well-being and security.
