KCS ENERGY INCREASES ABOVE-MARKET PRICE PRODUCT; ANNOUNCES START OF FOURTH NEW GAS WELL IN SOUTH TEXAS FIELD

HOUSTON, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- KCS Energy (NYSE: KCS) today announced an approximate 300 percent increase in production from its Jesus Yzaquirre lease following completion of its Jesus Yzaquirre No. 4 well and a recompletion of its Jesus Yzaquirre No. 3 well in the Falcon/Bob West field in Zapata County, Texas.
 C. R. Devine, KCS Energy vice president, said the company has completed the Jesus Yzaquirre No. 4, which is producing 1,400 mcf per day from the Wilcox Formation at a measured depth of 12,874 to 13,634 feet on a 48/64 inch choke with 1,120 Psig flowing tubing pressure.
He also reported that the Jesus Yzaquirre No. 3 has been recompleted in the Wilcox formation at a measured depth of 10,656 to 11,554 feet. Current production from the No. 3 is in excess of 9,000 Mcf per day on a 20/64th inch choke with flowing tubing pressure of 4,800 Psig. Devine said the company has temporarily abandoned the lower producing horizons in this well, which were producing 1,200 Mcf per day.
Devine said current production from this lease wn?ow in excess of 12,000 mcf per day. He said drilling had commenced on the Jesus Yzaquirre No. 5 and that further development of the field would continue.
Production from these wells, which are 100 percent owned by KCS energy, is under contract to Tennessee Gas Pipeline until January 1999. April contract pricing was approximately $7.52 per MMbtu, including reimbursement of severance taxes. A Texas court ruling in June 1992, upholding the contract is under appeal by Tennessee Gas.
