FOR CAMP HOLLYWOODLAND PAVILION DESTROYED BY ARSONIST
Announcement to be Made Amidst Charred Remains of Old Lodge
WHAT: The rebuilding of one of Los Angeles' most-valued community service operations, Camp Hollywoodland, substantially destroyed during the Los Angeles riots, will be announced.
Camp Hollywoodland's main lodge and kitchen were ravaged by fire in the heat of the riots, threatening the camp's ability to provide needed programs to thousands of economically disadvantaged kids.
Amidst the charred remains of the old burned-out lodge, renderings of the new Camp Hollywoodland will be unveiled and details of the new facilities announced.
Launching a major public/private cooperative effort, Kaufman and Broad, California's largest single-family home builder, in concert with the Building Trades Council and the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department, has committed in an unprecedented effort to begin work immediately to complete the construction of the all-new "Kaufman and Broad Pavilion at Camp Hollywoodland" by July 16, when the camp's summer programs begin -- all at no cost to taxpayers.
