KATIE KIERANS; GIG GUIDE Her weekly diary on the nightlife activities of a first year UCD student.. (after studies of course).

LET us introduce you to our new columnist fun-loving UCD college student Katie Kierans who is reporting from the front of the party line.

You can read her column in The Beat every week, follow her on twitter (KatieKierans) and send her some of your funny college stories, "even if they're from back in the day - she'd love to hear them."

AS I sit in my hallway typing on my laptop (at 6pm in the evening may I add) my roommates are blaring Rita Ora's Party (How we Do) anthem and prinking (for those oldies who aren't familiar with this terminology I'm referring to pre-drinking).

It's day six of living on my own and I'm heading for another night on the tiles. When you live Dublin while attending college it's extremely difficult not go out every night.

I've been living in my dorms for a week and without fail every night someone knocks on my door inviting me to a party. On many occasion I've got all dressed up and never even made it off campus.

My first night here I bought a ticket for Boys and Girls - it was a fiver down the drain because I spent the night drinking and singing along to a guitar in one of the rooms downstairs.

Last Thursday we went to Jober as a Sudge, an event hosted by L&H, one of the oldest and most famous societies in UCD. D2 was filled with first years all excited to be starting college.

Afterwards my new friend Paula forced me to go Coppers (ok I'll admit she didn't really have to do that move convincing). It's the most talked about nightclub in Dublin and is renowned for its 'quirky' reputation. I finally understand what all the fuss is about. It's definitely one of the most entertaining nightclubs that I've ever been to.

Black Monday has come and passed... students all over Dublin are still recovering. It's the ultimate night of the year when everyone returns to college after the summer break.

Diceys was black with people, the queues were insane, the drink was flowing, and the dancing was horrific. If this is an example of the first college night out... I can't imagine what's in store for the rest of the year.

For those of you who are from Dublin and the surrounding area, you already know that there's no other place where you'd have this much craic. For those of you who are just arriving to the Capital I guarantee you you're in for the time of your life.

Everybody told me that college would be the most insane years of my life, it's only been a week and I already believe them.
