KATHLEEN FOLEY FELDSTEIN ELECTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION

 MAYNARD, Mass., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) today announced the election of economist Kathleen Foley Feldstein to the company's Board of Directors. Feldstein, 52, is the president of Economics Studies, Inc., a private consulting firm in Belmont, Mass. She and her husband Martin write columns on economic affairs that are published monthly in newspapers in the United States and abroad.
 Commenting on this election, Digital President Robert B. Palmer said, "Dr. Feldstein is a highly respected economist. We are very pleased to have her joining our Board of Directors, and we are confident that with her substantial abilities she will make a significant contribution to Digital."
 Dr. Feldstein also holds a seat on the boards of the Bank America Corporation and Conrail (Consolidated Rail Corporation), and is a director of the Kleinwort Benson Australian Income Fund, Inc. She is a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Simmons College; and McLean Hospital. She currently serves as a member of Governor William Weld's Council for Economic Growth and Technology.
 Dr. Feldstein received her bachelor's degree from Radcliffe College and her Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
