KARL 'THE MAILMAN' MALONE DELIVERS FOR HARDEE'S

 ROCKY MOUNT, N.C., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Hardee's Food Systems, Inc., hopes to score big with basketball superstar Karl Malone over the next few years. The world's fourth-largest restaurant company today announced it had signed a four-year deal with Malone to act as a spokesman.
 "Karl is a very real, down-to-earth person," said Jerry Gramaglia, executive vice president of Marketing for Hardee's. "He fits in perfectly with Hardee's `real people, real food' positioning."
 Hardee's already has featured Malone in spots to promote the company's breakfast biscuits and fresh fried chicken. But Hardee's is especially proud of its association with Malone for more than commercial reasons.
 Malone recently penned a column for Sports Illustrated in which he joined the debate about whether pro athletes are role models, and just what, if anything, they owe their fans. Malone wrote, "It's a great feeling to think you're a small part of the reason that a kid decided to give school another try instead of dropping out or that a kid had the strength to walk away when someone offered him drugs."
 Hardee's Food Systems, Inc., headquartered in Rocky Mount, N.C., operates a system of 4,000 company and franchise restaurants in 40 states and 11 foreign countries. Approximately 650 of the restaurants operate under the Roy Rogers trademark. Hardee's has expanded its hamburger and sandwich menu with fresh fried chicken, becoming the second largest chicken restaurant chain in the world.
