KAO INFOSYSTEMS LAUNCHES COMPREHENSIVE RESELLER SUPPORT PROGRAM
CHICAGO, April 6, 1992 -- Kao Infosystems Company, one of the world's largest data storage manufacturers, today announced at COMDEX (Booth No. 2022) that it is launching a comprehensive reseller support program -- reflecting the company's aggressive strategy to become a leading brand.
Kao's reseller support program will target Fortune 500 corporations, medium and small businesses and personal computer users. The program kicks off immediately with a major national advertising campaign featuring dramatic visuals. The campaign, targeting end users, will make Kao one of the largest advertisers in the diskette market with its ads featured in publications such as PC Magazine and PC Week. Kao offers excellent value to its resellers, giving them the opportunity for higher profitability, and offers consumers high- quality products at a competitive price. Kao's comprehensive reseller program makes it a "preferred business partner" by offering dealers higher margins.
As part of the kick-off, Kao is offering a 5.25-inch diskette promotion to resellers, enabling them to purchase preformatted 5.25- inch diskettes -- in both double and high density capacities -- at no additional charge. As an added incentive, they will receive a 10 percent discount on high density 5.25-inch diskettes.
The reseller support program is comprised of several additional components, including a generous cooperative advertising program where a percentage of branded purchases will be used for local advertising; direct mailings; trade shows and sales and product training programs. Kao's reseller support program serves Kao's key channels -- computer speciality dealers, office product dealers, wholesalers, retailers and buying groups -- to successfully sell the Kao brand of diskettes.
Prior to its aggressive launch into the branded market, Kao recently signed agreements with Daisytek, a leading wholesaler of business-to-business products with 13,000 dealers nationwide, and United Stationers, the nation's largest wholesale distributor to the office products market, with 8,000 dealers worldwide. These resellers will distribute the company's full line of data storage products.
Kao is currently pursuing agreements with major resellers in the retail market, and the company will announce a full-scale retail program later this year. As part of its plans in this area, Kao recently appointed a national sales manager for retail sales.
John Depuy, director of marketing for Kao said, "Kao became the number one supplier to the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) market in only four years of operation, and we will use the same strategy for success in branded market. We are confident that our leading position in the OEM market reflects the success we will achieve with our branded products."
Kao has been the leading supplier to the OEM market for two consecutive years, according to leading industry analyst firm Santa Clara Consulting Group. The company's OEM customers include some of the largest software companies, such as Microsoft and Lotus.
Kao's complete line of data storage products, designed for today's more complex computer systems, includes both standard and high density diskettes in the 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch formats; data cartridges and digital audio tapes (DATs). Kao also offers 3.5-inch 4mb extra density diskettes for higher capacity data storage needs.
Kao Infosystems Company, located in Plymouth, Mass., and Kao Didak, located in Arnprior, Ontario, work together to better serve North America. The companies' products, including diskettes, data cartridges, and digital audio tapes (DATs), incorporate advanced surface science technology. Kao Infosystems Company is a division of Kao Corporation of America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kao Corporation. Kao Didak is a direct subsidiary of Kao Corporation, a $5 billion Japanese conglomerate established in 1887.
