 KAO INFOSYSTEMS ANNOUNCES AGREEMENTS WITH
 COMPUTERLAND EXPRESS AND CIRCUIT CITY
PLYMOUTH, Mass., May 28 /PRNewsire/ -- Kao Infosystems Company, one of the largest diskette manufacturers in the world, today announced at the Computer Electronics Show in Chicago that it has signed agreements with ComputerLand Express, ComputerLand's first superstore, located in Atlanta, and Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's largest consumer electronics chain, with 229 stores, to distribute the company's full line of 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch diskettes.
Kao has already established numerous agreements with key resellers, including Arvey's, a leading computer retail chain located in Chicago, and expects additional major agreements to be signed in the near future. These agreements reflect Kao's commitment to gain a strong foothold in electronic and computer superstores throughout North America.
Larry Anderson, Kao's national sales manager for retail sales said, "Kao is making major inroads into the retail market, which is evident by our agreements with ComputerLand Express and Circuit City to distribute Kao products. Our alignment with these retailers has stemmed in part from the success of our comprehensive reseller support program. These retailers know that we are committed to working with them individually, and providing the highest quality products, to serve the needs of their customers."
ComputerLand spokesman Steve Taylor said, "ComputerLand Express sells only a few brands of diskettes, and we chose Kao products for their noticeable high quality. We are ready to distribute Kao diskettes to our customers."
ComputerLand Express -- with sales approaching $2 million per month -- plans to establish additional retail stores in major markets. Software and peripherals comprise one-half of ComputerLand Express' sales.
Circuit City Stores, Inc., based in Richmond, Virginia, is the nation's largest specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances. The company operates 180 superstores, 11 Circuit City stores and 35 Impulse Stores in the U.S.
These agreements were signed shortly after Kao announced its comprehensive reseller support program in April. The program -- which contains retail-specific components -- includes a major national advertising campaign, making Kao one of the largest advertisers in the diskette market, with ads featured in such publications as PC Magazine, PC Week and Mac User.
In addition to a substantial cooperative advertising program, the reseller support program also includes direct mailings; trade shows and sales and product training programs. Additional components of the program include point-of-purchase materials and in-store promotions.
Anderson said, "Through the reseller support program, Kao offers excellent value to its resellers, giving them the opportunity for higher profitability. The program also offers consumers high-quality products at a competitive price."
Kao Infosystems Company, headquartered in Plymouth, Mass., has become one of the world's largest diskette manufacturers in only six years of operation. The company has been the leading supplier to the OEM (original equipment manufacturer market) for two consecutive years. Kao is also a leading supplier to the government market, and the leading brand of diskettes in Canada.
Kao's products, including diskettes, data cartridges, digital audio tapes (DATs) and software duplication services, incorporate advanced surface science technology. Kao Infosystems Company is a division of Kao Corporation of America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kao Corporation, a $5 billion Japanese conglomerate established in 1887.
