KAMEN SUCCEEDS SCHWARTZ AT METLIFE

 NEW YORK, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- As previously announced, Harry P. Kamen, MetLife senior executive vice-president, today assumed the posts of chairman and chief executive officer. Robert G. Schwartz, former chairman, president and chief executive officer, retired after 44 years of service at MetLife. Mr. Kamen becomes the 13th chief executive officer of the company as it celebrates its 125th anniversary.
 Additionally, Ted Athanassiades, senior executive vice-president, today assumed the posts of president and chief operating officer, and Stewart G. Nagler, senior executive vice-president, has been appointed chief financial officer.
 "Fundamental changes have swept through the insurance industry," Mr. Kamen said, "but MetLife, with its excellent financial strength and focus on core businesses, has provided a safe haven for its customers. That has been our tradition for 125 years, and we intend to continue on that course, while intensifying our efforts to add value for our customers."
