KAISER PERMANENTE OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SELECTS FISCHER MAMMOTEST SYSTEM

DENVER, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Fischer Imaging Corp. (NASDAQ: FIMG) announced today that Kaiser Permanente of Southern California has agreed to purchase five MAMMOTEST(R) Breast Biopsy and MAMMOVISION digital mammography systems for key hospitals and medical offices in the Southern California Region.
Kaiser Permanente is the largest health maintenance organization in the United States with 2.2 million members in the Southern California area alone. The MAMMOTEST Breast Biopsy System is a prone stereotactic X-ray system that replaces surgical biopsy procedures with less invasive needle biopsy techniques.
Kent Kruse, National Accounts Manager for Fischer Imaging, said, "Managed Care Organizations and minimally invasive technologies will flourish under healthcare reform. Kaiser Permanente's decision to purchase the MAMMOTEST and MAMMOVISION systems demonstrates how major medical centers can reduce the cost of healthcare while simultaneously improving patient care." The initial value of the agreement is almost $1 million.
Fischer Imaging is the market leader in stereotactic breast biopsy systems and more recently has focused on the development of digital mammography systems for breast cancer diagnosis.
Fischer designs, manufactures and markets specialty and general purpose X-ray imaging systems for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The company's principal product lines are directed toward medical specialties in which minimally invasive techniques are replacing open surgical procedures.
