K-TRON INTERNATIONAL REPORTS HIGHER SECOND QUARTER
 AND FIRST HALF RESULTS
PITMAN, N.J., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- K-Tron International, Inc. (NASDAQ: KTII) today reported sharply higher revenues in the second quarter resulting from increased sales in Europe and its acquisition on April 30 of Colortronic GmbH, a German manufacturer of industrial process control equipment.
In the second quarter ended July 4, 1992, revenues rose 50 percent to $31.6 million vs. $21.1 million for the same period last year. Excluding Colortronic, revenues were $23.4 million, up 11 percent from last year.
Pretax earnings for the quarter were $1.796 million, up $0.355 million or 25 percent compared to the second quarter of 1991, while net earnings were $1.136 million, or $0.37 per share, vs. $1.041 million, or $0.35 per share last year.
Revenues for the first six months of 1992 were $50.6 million, an increase of $9.2 million or 22 percent over the same period in 1991. Excluding Colortronic, revenues were $42.4 million, up 2 percent from the same period in 1991.
Pretax earnings for the first six months of 1992 were $2.772 million, up $0.482 million or 21 percent over 1991, while net earnings reached $1.822 million, or $0.60 per share, vs. $1.680 million, or $0.57 per share, in 1991.
These increases in revenues and pretax earnings were achieved despite unfavorable foreign exchange rate changes compared to last year. Higher income taxes also impacted net earnings for these periods.
K-Tron's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Leo C. Beebe said, "K-Tron has had another good quarter despite recession in many of our markets. Increased sales in Europe have offset flat sales in the United States and a slowdown in Asia. We are running well ahead of the economy."
"At the same time," Beebe added, "we continue to pursue our longer- term growth strategies. The integration of Colortronic is progressing on schedule along with other product and global expansion. Our growth and operations continue to benefit from strong cash flow."
Looking ahead, Beebe said, "Business is picking up in the United States where our backlog of customer orders has increased to record levels. Assuming reasonable market stability and further progress at integrating Colortronic, we look forward to continued growth and improved profitability for K-Tron as a whole in the second half."
K-Tron International, Inc., through its subsidiaries, is a major producer of gravimetric and volumetric feeders and blenders and related equipment and gravimetric security systems, with facilities and customers throughout the world.
