K-SWISS SHOES: THE PAPAL CHOICE FOR POPE JOHN PAUL II'S THIRD VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- During his historic visit to Denver this week, His Holiness Pope John Paul II will be walking in style and comfort in a brand new pair of tennis shoes from Chatsworth-based athletic shoe manufacturer K-Swiss Inc.
The all-leather tennis shoes were purchased at a local Athlete's Foot store in Denver (located at 1600 Stout St.) Thursday by three members of the National Catholic Archdiocese representing the Pope.
"It was terribly exciting when the Pope's representatives introduced themselves and presented their credentials," said store manager Jackie Sage. "Word spread like wildfire, and everyone wanted to know what the papal delegation was doing in our store," she added.
"They told me that the Pope wanted white athletic shoes that would give him support on uneven terrain since he'll be doing a lot of walking on different surfaces while he's here. They really liked the K-Swiss shoes and made only one request: that the standard white lacings be replaced with gold laces -- per His Holiness' wishes," Sage noted.
The shoes are being presented to the Pope by organizers of the World Youth Day celebration in Denver and will reportedly be worn by John Paul II during his trip on Friday to Camp St. Malo, his pilgrimage by Cherry Creek State Park on Saturday and during Sunday's religious ceremonies and departure.
For inquiring minds that simply must know: His Holiness wears a size 10 1/2 tennis shoe. Also, his representatives paid regular price for the shoes.
