K-SWISS NAMED OFFICIAL FOOTWEAR OF THE AMERICA'S CUP '95

CHATSWORTH, Calif., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- K-Swiss announced today that it has signed an agreement with America's Cup '95 to be the Official Footwear of the America's Cup '95 international regatta, one of the most prestigious events in international sports.
This marks the second consecutive time K-Swiss has served in that capacity. It also was the Official Footwear of the America's Cup '92, the last time the America's Cup competition was held.
As the Official Footwear, K-Swiss will be worn by all the America's Cup '95 staff and officials, as well as featured at America's Cup '95 venues in San Diego later this year.
K-Swiss is currently developing three new nautical shoes in conjunction with the event. They include a top-of-the-line all-leather boating shoe, a technical boating shoe for the serious sailor, and a canvas nautical shoe designed along the lines of K-Swiss' popular S&T Canvas Classic(TM). Featured on the top two models will be the official America's Cup logo.
"We are delighted to be associated once again with K-Swiss," said Chuck Nichols, president of America's Cup '95. "The new nautical shoes being developed by the company have some outstanding features, and we are very enthusiastic about them. K-Swiss' excellent performance during the last Cup races, coupled with the firm's expertise in the nautical shoe category, made it an easy selection for us when considering a shoe company for the America's Cup '95 competition," he noted.
Robert Larsen, vice president of marketing for K-Swiss, added that, "The America's Cup is the oldest and most coveted trophy in professional sports. Having the opportunity to serve as the event's Official Footwear twice in a row is a great honor and one for which we are very proud."
Larsen added that, in addition to the three new shoe models, K-Swiss will be launching n/6 4ZwJ nx:ed5arketing program over the next year, both domestically and internationally, to raise public awareness of K-Swiss' affiliation with the America's Cup.
1995 marks the 29th defense of the America's Cup trophy. Eight challengers from five countries, including Australia, France, Japan, New Zealand and Spain, will be vying to wrest the Cup away from the U.S. defender, the San Diego Yacht Club.
The international regatta will be held off the coast of San Diego from mid-January through May 1995. A defender series -- the Citizen Cup -- and a challenger series -- the Louis Vuitton Cup -- will be conducted to determine the U.S. representative from the San Diego Yacht Club and the ultimate challenger. The winners of those regattas will then compete in a best-of-nine match for the prized America's Cup.
In addition to nautical shoes, K-Swiss manufactures a wide range of tennis, outdoor, cross-court, children's and other athletic footwear and apparel for high performance and fitness activities.
