 PLYMOUTH, Minn., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- K-tel International, Inc. (NASDAQ: KTEL) announced today that it has named three new directors to its board of directors, effective immediately. The addition of the three new appointees increases K-tel's board to five members.
 Seymour "Cy" Leslie, 70, has served as chairman of the Leslie Group, Inc., a privately held diversified investment firm, since 1987 and as co-chairman of Leslie/Linton Entertainment, Inc., a privately held diversified investment company, since June 1989. Mr. Leslie has been active in the recorded music industry since 1953 when he founded Pickwick International, Inc. Mr. Leslie served as chairman of the board of Pickwick until 1977. During his tenure, Pickwick became a dominant force in the industry and developed the Musicland chain into the largest record retailer in the world. He was named president of CBS Video Enterprises in 1980. In 1982, he left CBS to form the MGM/UA Home Entertainment Group, Inc., a company engaged in the home video and pay television industry. He served as chairman of this concern until 1987, when he founded the Leslie Group. Mr. Leslie has been a past recipient of Time magazine's "Man of the Year" award and is a member of the Video Hall of Fame. Mr. Leslie is involved in several philanthropic organizations and serves on numerous boards of directors.
 Sanford C. Sigoloff, 63, is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sigoloff & Associates, Inc., a crisis management and consulting firm specializing in corporate reorganizations, restructurings and turnarounds. For more than 30 years, Mr. Sigoloff has worked closely with numerous diverse conglomerates composed of worldwide businesses covering virtually every product and service sector. In the position of chief executive officer, Mr. Sigoloff has led the reorganization, recovery and expansion of companies with collective assets in excess of $5 billion. Among the companies for whom Mr. Sigoloff has served in senior executive capacities are L.J. Hooker Corporation, Wickes Companies, Kaufman & Broad, Daylin Corporation, Republic Corporation, and Xerox Corporation. Mr. Sigoloff is a leader and member of numerous professional, scientific, educational, and charitable organizations and institutions. Mr. Sigoloff is an adjunct professor at UCLA, his alma mater; and frequently lectures at Pepperdine University, Los Angeles and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
 Mark J. Dixon, 34, is vice president-finance, chief financial officer/treasurer of K-tel International, Inc. Mr. Dixon joined the company in 1983 and became a corporate officer in 1989. Prior to joining K-tel, Mr. Dixon was with KPMG Peat Marwick, St. Paul, Minn., earning his CPA in 1981. Mr. Dixon is a member of the Minnesota Society of CPA's and the AICPA.
 According to Mickey Elfenbein, president and chief executive officer, K-tel International, Inc., "We are very pleased to have Messers Leslie and Sigoloff joining K-tel's board as outside directors. Mr. Leslie is widely known for the success he achieved within the recorded music business, and Mr. Sigoloff is known for his management consulting activities both domestically and abroad. We look for both of these gentlemen to make a significant contribution to the company's board of directors."
 In addition, Mr. Elfenbein continued, "The appointment of Mark Dixon is in recognition of the great contribution he has made thus far to the company in the financial arena, which we expect will continue as the company grows and prospers."
 These new appointees to K-tel's board of directors will serve until the company's annual meeting of shareholders, scheduled for late January 1994, at which time they will stand for re-election to one-year terms.
