Justice Khawaja's wife serves legal notice on Mubasher Luqman.

ISLAMABAD -- Robina Jawwad, wife of Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja of the Supreme Court, Tuesday served a legal notice on Mubasher Luqman for levelling allegations against her in a programme titled 'Khara Such', broadcast by a private TV channel.

Robina, in her notice which she served under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance 2002, claimed that defamatory words were used against her in the programme.

Robina stated that the first false and defamatory statement by the anchor was that she had sold her land to the Punjab government, which was repeated twice.

She said the correct position was that the land was never sold to the Punjab government, rather it was acquired by it against her will under the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act 1894.

"This indicates that he (Luqman) deliberately told a lie to attack, inter alia, my credibility," she added.

Rubina said the second false and defamatory statement by the anchor was that after receiving compensation awarded by the Land Acquisition Collector, "my husband and I started pressurizing the land acquisition authorities and even were 'arm twisting' the Punjab government by illegally using of my husband's official position."

The factual position was that her husband was not a judge at that time, rather he was teaching at the Lahore University of Management

Sciences (LUMS) and was in no position whatsoever to exert any pressure on any government functionary on the basis of any official position, she added.

She said the third false and defamatory statement by the anchor was that he (Luqman) had all relevant record/papers and gave the impression to the viewers that he was relying on the same. It was also false as he did not have the complete relevant record, she added.

She had neither demanded Rs 330 million on the pretext of enhanced compensation nor the officials of government departments were running here and there to save their jobs for saying "no" as she was not the wife of a sitting Supreme Court judge, she said.

She rejected the rest of Luqman's allegations para-wise in detail.
