Just the week to go veggie.

SOAPS actor Scott Maslen is fronting the current campaign to encourage people to go veggie during National Vegetarian Week which ends on Sunday.

To support the meat-free challenge, the Vegetarian Society has produced its first recipe booklet aimed at new veggies.

The guide, which includes an introduction from Scott, has recipes and tips on cooking simple, tasty and, most importantly, meat-free meals on a budget.

Inside are meal ideas for the week, everyday recipes like hotpot, vegetable soup, korma and spaghetti bolognese, plus hot and cold sandwich fillings.

Scott, who played Phil Hunter in The Bill and appears as Jack Branning in EastEnders, says: "I have a passion for vegetarian cuisine - it's healthy and it tastes great.

"Making delicious veggie food isn't difficult, but it helps if you know where to begin.

"I wish I'd had this recipe book when I became vegetarian.

"It will give you the head start you need to enjoy the benefits of a meat-free diet.

"If you get cooking you might surprise yourself!"

The booklet, Meat Free Made Easy, is available free from the charity by calling 0161 925 2000 or look at the recipes online at www.vegsoc.org/ nvw
