Just for the Health of It

Owner: Jean Gaither Address: 10110 West Markham St., Little Rock, 221-0143 Start-up date: May 1

Just for the Health of It, Jean Gaither's reflexology clinic, had a shaky beginning.

Gaither opened the clinic in April but generated little business. She says she was denied the right to hang a sign when another business owner protested the opening of a "massage parlor" next to his business. The decision was overturned.

Gaither says she is a professionally trained masseuse, not a physician.

Reflexology deals with nerve endings in the hands, feet and ears. Gaither says the techniques she uses stimulate the nervous system, improve blood circulation and speed up the body's healing process. Gaither claims she can help people suffering from arthritis, high blood pressure, stress and insomnia.

As a practicing reflexologist for 14 years, Gaither says she has seen a steady increase in the popularity of reflexology.

Gaither estimates her start-up costs at $6,000. She advertises on local radio and television stations.
