New Fusion 980 Delivers Highest Performance,

Greatest Flexibility and Reliability on Market Today

StarGen, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company specializing in advanced serial switched interconnect solutions, today announced that Jupiter Systems has implemented StarFabric in its new Fusion 980 display wall controller. The innovative new switched fabric architecture, coupled with dual Xeon processors and ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics chips, allows the Fusion 980 to drive as many as 80 display channels at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 per channel. Virtually unlimited local and network applications and up to 32 directly connected RGB sources and 64 connected video source can be displayed simultaneously using the Fusion 980.

"The new Fusion 980 raises the bar on display controller performance, operational flexibility, and reliability for the control room," said John Stark, director of marketing at Jupiter. "Its launch marks a significant development in the Jupiter product family offering and within the industry, and the collaboration with StarGen adds significant strength to that offering."

"The use of StarFabric in a high performance application such as the Fusion 980 illustrates the power of the StarFabric architecture," said Tracy Richardson, president and co-founder of StarGen. "As technology continues to evolve, StarFabric is being designed into a variety of demanding applications that will enter the marketplace in the coming year."

The Fusion 980 display wall controller incorporates all of the visual data sources found in a control- room environment and displays them in movable, scalable windows on a display wall. Data sources can include information from local or remote network applications, direct video, and analog RGB feeds. An intuitive user interface provides easy access to all data sources.

Innovative StarFabric Switched Fabric Architecture

Interconnect resources are often overwhelmed by the demands of high-speed data and graphics commonly found in the control-room environment. By comparison, the revolutionary Fusion 980 StarFabric architecture provides 15 separate peripheral slots with a dedicated bandwidth of 4 Gbps each. Peripheral cards connect through the Fusion 980 backplane to an ultrahigh-bandwidth switch card, which determines the optimal routing for passing data between the cards. As a result, overall aggregate data bandwidth can reach a blistering 64 Gbps with the addition of an optional redundant switch card.

All graphics devices have access to connected video sources through Jupiter's proprietary analog video bus, which runs in parallel with the switched-fabric. The video bus allows video sources to display in real time, regardless of the size of the window.

About Jupiter Systems

Jupiter Systems ( is considered the leading worldwide supplier of network-based multiple-screen display stations and display wall controllers. Its products, considered "best of breed," drive desktop and operator consoles and projectors in display walls. All Jupiter products feature "virtual screen" capability, which makes multiple tiled displays look and act as if they are a single, large screen.

Jupiter has 3,000 installations around the world, in the utilities, telecommunications, aerospace and defense, corporate, manufacturing, process control, traffic, and law-enforcement markets. Examples include the transit authorities of Boston, Washington, D.C., and Chicago; telecommunications companies such as AT&T, Sprint, Telia A.B. (Sweden), and Deutsche Telekom; and Boeing, GE, Northrop Grumman, NASA, and many other major companies and government agencies throughout the world.

About StarGen

StarGen is a semiconductor company providing advanced serial switched interconnect solutions for compute and communications equipment. It is the leading designer of low-overhead, protocol-agnostic, open standards-based serial switched architectures, which enable system designers to bring new capabilities to their system while using existing standards-based parts. StarGen's currently shipping StarFabric product line benefits vendors of embedded systems needing enhanced switched PCI capability as well as vendors of access communication platforms for voice, data, and video networks. StarGen is also currently developing StarXpress, a complementary line of products built upon the Advanced Switching standard and compatible with PCI Express(TM). These products will be ideal solutions for blade server, storage, and mid-range communications applications. StarGen's switched interconnect products provide a dramatic increase in equipment performance, scalability, reliability, and Quality of Service while maintaining backward compatibility to existing standards based hardware and software. StarGen ( is headquartered in Marlborough, MA.
