Jupiter, Mars to come close on December 31.

Tribune News Network Doha A giant planet Jupiter will be approaching the red planet Mars on the last day of this year, Sunday, December 31, when the angular distance between two planets will be less than two degrees over dawn sky, the Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced. Qatar residence will be able to observe Mars very close to Jupiter over eastern horizon of Qatar sky with naked eye from rise time of Jupiter until sunrise time as Jupiter will rise at 2:24am Doha local time, while sunrise time will be at 6:19am Doha local time, astronomy expert at QCH Dr Beshir Marzouk said. On the other side, the nearest planet to the sun Mercury will be arranging with Jupiter and Mars over eastern horizon of Qatar dawn sky after Mercury rise time at 4:40am Doha local time. The planet with beautiful rings Saturn will complete the beautiful astronomical view on Sunday. Dr Marzouk said Qatar residence will have a good chance to see and observe the beautiful astronomical view for four planets Mars, Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn with naked eye and astronomical instrumentations from Saturn rise time over east horizon of Qatar sky at 5:43am Doha local time until sunrise time. According to Dr Marzouk, this astronomical phenomenon is very important because it is a good chance to see and observe four planets together with naked eyes and with recent digital cameras, with wide angle, to get nice pictures. Moreover, it is a guide for amateur astronomers to know the map of the sky and validates astronomical calculations.
