Junkyard 'Steptoe' left pounds 230*.

A REAL-LIFE Steptoe who everyone thought was penniless died leaving pounds 230,000 in the bank.

Rag-and-bone man Cliff Hodgson, who was 89, lived at his junkyard.

His closest friend Kenneth O'Hanrahan, 87, said "Cliff, wore secondhand clothes.

"He ate mainly stews and soups made from veg from his allotment. He never went out. He made his own beer and made a living selling junk.

"I don't how he accumulated so much wealth in the bank. I don't know what will happen to the money.

"He lived a life of poverty and yet could of afforded a life of luxury."

In addition to his stash of cash, Cliff's junk yard, in Slough, Berks, is worth around pounds 90,000.
