Junior Xsport: JESSICA'S ALL GOLD; Double medal delight for O'Hanlon, 14.

Byline: REBECCA KEEGAN

TUEBROOK taekwando star Jessica O'Hanlon added a `player of the day' award to her gold medal in a Dorset Invitational Championship -- and then picked up a gold in a similar event in Germany.

The 14-year-old is a member of Total Taekwando, a club based on West Derby Road which took 30 players to the Dorset Open Invitational Championships in Bournemouth.

The team walked away with 10 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals a swell as being placed first in the competition.

Jessica fought off competition from 64 other females to be named player of the day in Bournemouth -- and then headed for Germany, where she represented the club in another invitational, the ninth international Rottenburg/ Neckar Pokal.

The club took three players to the event -- Jessica, 15-year-old Elizabeth Wray and 16-year-old Christopher Daly, and returned with three medals.

Jessica grabbed gold in the 13- 14 year -old black belt category, Elizabeth silver in the 15-16-year-old female category and Christopher bronze in the 1617-year-old junior boys.

Team master Peter Hankin told Junior Xsport: ``There were players there from Germany, Luxembourg, France, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece and Turkey. So to take three medals out of a tournament where there were over 400 players is not bad. ''

Hankin has been practising the sport for 19 years and also competed in Dorset, winning two golds. He added: ``A lot of people pull Liverpool down but these children have shown great achievement and the city should be proud. I am very proud of everyone. ''

The Tuebrook competitors ranged from six-year-olds upwards and were the only Liverpool team competing in both the Dorset and Rottenburg events.

New members for the club are currently being accepted. For further information call 07952 942 774.
