June's imports decline again

Total beer imports into the United States in June were down 15.3 percent, or more than four million gallons when compared to June 1990. Through the first half of the year, U.S. beer imports continued off last year's pace, falling 10.3 percent below the corresponding period last year.

The Netherlands experienced a drop of 25.5 percent in June, reporting shipments of 6.1 million. Over the first six months of 1991, the country was down 12.1 percent, dropping from 1990's 40 million gallons to 35.2 million.

Canada reported only a slight decrease in shipments during June; 0.8 percent. Similarly, Canada's total exports to the U.S. for the year were down 1.4 percent to 30.6 million gallons.

To the south, Mexico saw exports fall 30.4 percent, or nearly 1.5 million gallons, to 3.9 million gallons for the month. All told for the year, Mexico reported shipments of 30.6 million gallons, a 12.8-percent decrease.

In the Pacific, Japan sported a four-percent increase in its June shipments to the U.S. compared to the same time last year. However, year-to-date figures were down 1.4 percent to 2.12 million gallons.
