Julien Gracq dies aged 97.


French writer Julien Gracq died on Saturday (22 December) whilst in hospital in the West of France.

Gracq's works include Au chateau d'Argol (The Castle of Argol), which was published in 1938, and his 1951 book Le Rivage des Syrtes (The Opposite Shore). His last book was completed in 2002, entitled Entretiens (Interviews).

The writer, who was 97, had been taken ill at his home at the start of the week, AFP reported.
