Judges go on strike after lawyers disrupt court proceedings.

SARGODHA -- Civil judges and clerical staff went on strike after lawyers misbehaved with a judge and disrupted court proceedings on Thursday.

Lawyer Rashid Mushtaq allegedly hurled abuses at judge Shamsul Mehmood when he penalized his client Abid Nawaz for nonpayment of maintenance allowance to his children.

Taking note of lawyer's conduct, the judge sentenced him and his client to one-month jail and Rs 200 fine each.

The conviction of their fellow annoyed other lawyers who disrupted court proceedings.

Finding themselves helpless, all civil judges and clerical staff stopped work.

Efforts from some people representing the bar and bench for a patch-up failed till the filing of this report at 11pm.

Earlier this week, lawyers thrashed a court bailiff who visited the residence of a lawyer for serving him summons.
