Judges end strike after lawyers' apology.
LAHORE -- Judges of Lahore district judiciary on Wednesday ended strike after the lawyers involved in maltreatment of their colleague sought apology.
Earlier, the judges continued their strike on the second day in protest against the maltreatment of their colleague by a group of lawyers and did not hear cases. The copy branch and other branches at sessions court also remained closed.
However, the Lahore Bar Association's cabinet headed by its president Ch Tanvir Akhtar met with District and Sessions Judge Abid Quershi to end the differences. The bar condemned lawyer's behaviour whereas the lawyers- Rana Faisal and Atif Aqeel- also sought apology over the incident.
After successful negotiations between bar and bench, all branches were opened and the judges also resumed their judicial work.
It is pertinent to mention that the judges of the district judiciary abandoned judicial work on Tuesday morning after a group of lawyers allegedly misbehaved with Civil Judge Waseem Ahmad at the LDA Complex for not delivering a 'favourable' decision. The lawyers used abusive language against the judge and also snatched case file from the court's staff. A mobile video of the incident also went viral on the social media.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed at the Lahore High Court seeking action against the lawyers involved in maltreatment of civil judge Waseem Ahmad.The petition was filed by Advocate Shahid Rana submitting that the lawyers - Rana Faisal and Atif Aqeel- disturbed the decorum of the court and it fall under contempt of court. He pleaded with the court to take action against the lawyers and cancel their licenses.
