Joust the ticket for lady of the castle!
FOR the first time ever, a female jouster is to take part in Kenilworth Castle's Grand Medieval Joust.
As the place where Robert Dudley famously wooed Tudor England's most powerful woman, Queen Elizabeth, Kenilworth is aptly the first of four English Heritage castles to see a woman jousting against men this summer.
Horsewoman extraordinaire Nicky Willis will take the reins in Kenilworth's Grand Medieval Joust on Saturday and Sunday (June 25 and 26).
Nicky is a professional rider who regularly jousts on the continent and has trained horses for jousting for over ten years.
At Kenilworth she will pit her skills against three leading male "knights" in the medieval martial art - including Russian champion Dimitry Sabachenko in his UK debut.
Nicky, who has triumphed in jousting championships throughout Europe, is excited to be competing at Kenilworth.
She said: "I have heard how much fun it is to joust at Kenilworth, and can't wait to be part of the action this year.
"Kenilworth is famed for some of the most elaborate tournaments in Medieval England - as well playing host to one of England's strongest women - so it's the perfect place to sort the women from the boys!"
