Joss teams up with live orchestra for city gig; Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Joss Stone brings her mix of pop, funk and soul to Cardiff in October as Victoria Jones finds out.

SOUL sensation Joss Stone is set to make her first visit to Cardiff's St David's Hall accompanied by a live orchestra.

On Sunday, October 15, the internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter will bring her mix of pop, funk and soul to the city.

The singer-songwriter first burst onto the scene in 2003 with her fusion of soul, R&B and reggae which led to her debut album The Soul Sessions being nominated for the 2004 Mercury Prize.

Further success soon followed as her multi-platinum second album Mind Body & Soul stormed to the top of the UK charts, and spawned the Top 10 single You Had Me.

Both were nominated at the 2005 Grammy Awards, and she went one better at the same year's Brit Awards where she won accolades for Best British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Act.

Throughout her career, Joss has sold 14 million albums worldwide and established herself as one of the UK's best-selling artists over the last decade.

The versatile star has also turned her hand to acting in fantasy adventure film Eragon in 2006 and as Anne of Cleves in popular TV series, The Tudors.

Last year, Joss entertained audiences with her special guest appearance with Burt Bacharach and an orchestra.

Following widespread rave reviews, Joss now takes to the road to perform some of Burt's iconic songs such as In Between the Heartaches and The Look of Love alongside her own hits.

There will also be a sprinkling of Joss' favourite songs including James Brown's It's A Man's Man's Man's World and Gladys Knight's Midnight Train to Georgia.

Tickets are priced PS24, PS31 and PS36 (plus an optional PS1 postage fee). To book your seats visit www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk or call the box office on 029 2087 8444.
