Josh Gordon Stepping Away, Leaving Patriots Thin At Receiver.

The New England Patriots (9-5), riding a rare two-game losing streak, just lost their leading wide receiver for the foreseeable future. Josh Gordon, who was acquired in an early-season trade with Cleveland, is stepping away from football to focus on his mental health, according to a statement from the receiver.

A source also told ( ESPN's Dan Graziano that Gordon might face a suspension for violating the terms of his reinstatement in accordance with the league's drug policy. The talented wide receiver has only played in 22 games since 2014 because of suspensions.

Gordon had the ( most receiving yards of any Patriot prior to his unexpected absence, with 720. Without Gordon, the Patriots will have a gaping hole to fill, especially for an offense that has not always looked great this season.

The only other wide receivers on the roster right now are Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Cordarrelle Patterson and Phillip Dorsett. Edelman is the only one with more than 500 receiving yards. Tight end Rob Gronkowski has also not been the same player he once was this season, as his 658 yards are only fourth on the team.

For reference, running back James White has more, with 699 receiving yards.
