Joseph Drozda, Jr. Appointed Vice President Of Medical Affairs At Centene Corporation.

Joseph P. Drozda, Jr., M.D., has been appointed Vice President of Medical Affairs at Centene Corporation, Senior Vice President Operations Group Mary O'Hara has announced.

Ms. O'Hara said, "Dr. Drozda is one of the most knowledgeable medical management executives in the health care industry today. With 23 years of experience in medical practice and health care management, he excels in designing and implementing practice guidelines, disease management programs, and outcomes analyses which have improved clinical and financial results while enhancing patient satisfaction."

Before joining Centene, Dr. Drozda was the owner of a health services consulting firm that worked closely with managed care organizations, physician groups, hospital networks and employer groups on a variety of managed care delivery and financing issues.

Dr. Drozda, together with Robert Packman, M.D., who is Centene's Vice President Medical Officer, bring together a team that has a history of building successful physician health plans in the St. Louis area.

For three years, Dr. Drozda served as Vice President of Medical Management at SSM Health Care in St. Louis, Missouri. He was responsible for the development and management of the Medical Management Department, which was comprised of six hospitals, and 1,100 physicians. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of PHP, Inc., a statewide HMO based in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was responsible for utilization management, clinical quality improvement, and credentialing.

Dr. Drozda was also one of the founders and later Medical Director of Physicians Health Plan of Greater St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri. He was in charge of the medical supervision of the utilization management, quality assurance, and credentialing.

For 16 years, Dr. Drozda was in private practice of Cardiology. He has also served as the President of the Medical Staff, Chief of Cardiology and founding Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at DePaul Health Center. Dr. Drozda received his premedical education at Creighton University, and Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.

Headquartered in St. Louis, Centene Corporation specializes in providing services for government-supported health care programs. It has Medicaid managed health care plans in Indiana, Texas and Wisconsin and recently opened a new Claims Processing Center in Farmington, Missouri.
