The Manchester United manager is working as a pundit during the tournament in Russia, and watched first hand as De Gea fumbled a speculative Cristiano Ronaldo effort into his own goal in his nation's 3-3 draw.

De Gea is usually very reliable between the sticks, and regarded as one of the greatest keepers on the planet - perhaps even of all time.

But he was far from his best in his side's opening Group B match, and was beaten three times by the ever-prolific Ronaldo.

"It's a mistake that he doesn't make with us, with United. He was our Player of the Season, fantastic performances. But that happens to the best.
